With our 9th annual YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES ® event quickly approaching, we’ve been looking back on some of our longtime participants and admiring their dedication and grace in taking part in this important event.

Once such participant is Dr. David Swann, MLA for Calgary Mountain View Constituency.  Dr. Swann, started participating in the YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES ® event eight years ago.  Today, Dr. Swann is gearing up to step up once again in signature red heels.

An advocate for the YWCA of Calgary’s work, Dr. Swann says “it’s the tremendous sense of community coming together that keeps him coming back for more wobbly fun”.  The most important thing to Dr. Swann is the recognition that we are all in this together and that we will benefit more when everyone is taken care of.

Some of Dr. Swann’s most treasured memories include, the many stories he has heard about how the YWCA is making a difference in the lives of so many women and their families.  “Seeing so many people show up at Olympic plaza, with the added comical element, really makes it a fun and gratifying event to be a part of”, say’s Dr. Swann.

Dr. Swann and his team will be donning their signature red heels once again this year.  To all of the new participants, Dr. Swann suggests calf training and Achilles tendon stretching to ensure a fun and pain free walk.

This year’s YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES ® event will be held at Olympic Plaza on September 18th.  Registration begins at 11AM and the walk begins at noon.  Donations are accepted online, as well as at the event.  There is still time to register as an individual or a team and do some fundraising.  High heels are provided and we will have your size!
