What are the staff qualifications and training?
The
Bright Lights Child Care Centre caregivers have Provincial Day Care
Staff Qualification Certificates Levels 1, 2 or 3. The caregivers'
certificates will be posted in the child care supervisor’s
office for you to review. The caregivers are skilled in child observation,
planning developmentally appropriate activities, and implementing
child-oriented activities. They have current first aid and CPR training
(including training with infants/toddlers) and have passed a security
clearance check.
Are
meals provided?
Yes,
lunch and 2 snacks a day are provided.
How
are parents involved in the child care centre?
The
centre will maintain an open door policy. The child care staff will
have regular nightly communication with parents in order to handle
parent’s concerns and keep them up to date on their child’s
development and progress. There will also be staff/parent meetings
twice per year.
It
is important that parents/guardians participate in the following:
• Volunteer at the centre or field trips
• Phone calls
• Observation of child while in program
• Parent Advisory Committee
• Family Conferences
In addition to this, parents and other family members are encouraged
to share their special skills and talents such as playing a musical
instrument, storytelling, cooking a cultural specialty, or bringing
in some specific clothing to be used in the dramatic play area.
What
do parents need to supply?
Parents
will need to supply diapers, creams, extra clothing, sippy cups/bottles
and, if needed, a comfort item for nap time.
What
security and safety measures are in place?
There
will be first aid kits, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in
every room. A first aid kit is brought on all field trips. Fire
drills will occur once a month. Cribs and high chairs meet Canadian
Safety guidelines.
Parents will have an access card to the child care centre. Doors
are kept locked at all times. During outdoor play, gates will be
locked.
Can
I bring my child to the child care centre if he/she is sick?
A child
who has a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or over; Diarrhoea;
any form of contagious/communicable disease; or been prescribed
any kind of medication in the last 24 hours, must not attend the
Childcare Centre for a minimum of 24 hours. Once the child's temperature
is normal and the medication has taken effect, the child may return
to the centre.
If
a child cannot take part in an activity because of illness, the
child should not come to the centre that day. If a child comes to
the centre ill, parents will be asked to find alternate care for
that day.
The
YWCA requires a doctor's note when a child returns to the centre
after having a contagious disease. Parents can call the centre to
find out whether their child will need a note after an illness.
