Holiday Family Program

It is with sincere gratitude that I thank our supporters of YWCA 2007 Holiday Family program. You have helped to give the gift of dignity to 183 families who, because of you, were able to shop for themselves, received toys and gifts for their children, had a Christmas meal and enough food for a week.

“The Mom I brought in to receive her Holiday Family support was in tears on the way home. She was beside herself in the generosity and kindness of the donors and of the YWCA. She was not expecting the quality and selection of the toys and was just so excited for Christmas morning to see her children’s faces”. – YWCA Counselor.

“My family was very grateful for you help this year. My children were sharing their new toys and laughing. I cannot imagine what we would have done without you. You must all take to bed tonight the feeling of having done a good thing. May the New Year bless you with the kindness you have shown to us. Thank you”. – YWCA Client.

Because of people like you, we are leading the way to ending violence against women, helping low income women become self sufficient, providing crisis housing to homeless women and their children, building resiliency in at risk girls, and providing our clients with the skills, abilities and opportunities to contribute to and benefit from healthy communities. On behalf of the women and children we serve, we are grateful for your support and thank you for your leadership which is helping our families to move toward independence.

Your commitment to the Holiday Family program gave us the power to continue to support our families over the holiday season even with staffing shortfalls and interim program changes. I look forward to delivering the best possible holiday program next year.

Thank You!

Please note that as of October 2007, the YWCA of Calgary can no longer accept donations of use items and gently used clothing donations. The collection of used items is taxing on the organization’s internal resources, with limited staffing and where costs associated with sorting, distributing and sorting mass items can no longer be managed. Use clothing, bedding, toys and household items also present a number of health and hygiene issues.
