YWCA Safe Haven


YWCA Safe Haven is a short-term residential program that provides a home environment-including a new kitchen and shared living room-counseling and support to girls 14 - 19 years of age who are involved in or at risk of sexual exploitation and homelessness. The YWCA Safe Haven offers access to medical support and information through the services of a VON nurse, 24-hour counseling staff, referrals for education and job training as well as assistance in reconnecting with families and a community support network.

Supportive Counseling:
When you support the YWCA of Calgary, your donations provide direct opportunities for young women to stabilize their lives in a nurturing and home-like environment, through these services:

  • 24/7 counseling staff
  • Seven-bedroom home environment with new common kitchen, living room and computer resources
  • Nutritious meals and snacks
  • Medical support (VON nurse on site)
  • Life skills learning (cooking, budgeting, decision-making, cleaning, living on your own skills, etc)
  • School supplies and arts & crafts
  • Transportation (bus tickets)
  • Access to donations room for gently used and new clothing and outerwear
  • Referrals to other community resources, such as AADAC, CCASA,
  • Development of positive peer relationships
  • Recreation activities (hosted visits to the Zoo, theatre, movies, etc.)
  • Advocacy and support
